Stratford 2026 Municipal Election

All-Candidates Meeting on Democracy and the Environment

Letter from Lesley Walker-Fitzpatrick to City Council

Dear Mayor and Councillors,

I am writing to bring your attention to the excellent local plan and vision for the GTR building and Area as put forth by Stratford Architect Robert Ritz.

Mr. Ritz has donated a great amount of time and resources as well as his expertise to provide council and Stratford citizens with a very practical road map to the development of our heritage building and site.He proposes, instead of a ‘for profit’ developer who is not based in Stratford, a competent project manager be hired to guide and oversee the development of the GTR. This will of course save the profit, the money, that the developers would want to make to justify their efforts. A project manager instead of a developer would reduce any possibility of corruption.

Mr. Ritz’s plan provides for generating money as the project develops to help reduce costs. This wonderful plan is conceived as a new heart for Stratford to meet the needs of the citizens, to allow growth into the future and to celebrate Stratford’s amazing Heritage.
In my opinion and many other’s minds, council would be remiss in not acquainting themselves with this very special local plan. In fact, council would not be doing their job, council would be negligent as city leaders to not give 100% attention and consideration to this well conceived and articulated vision for the GTR building and site.

I am quite shocked that council seems to be ignoring this visionary Stratford-based plan. After all the years, bad decisions, delays, money thrown away on outside experts, let’s make the obvious best choice and put all our weight behind the Ritz Plan.

     Full Steam Ahead. Finally.
